An architectural masterpiece houses the nonprofit Blackhawk Automotive Museum, which displays more than 120 classic and exotic automobiles and the world's only automotive art gallery. Open Wednesday-Sunday 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM.

California Historical Society

One of two museums in America dedicated to the preservation, education and exhibition of cartoon art in all forms, the Cartoon Art Museum includes a CD-ROM lab and research library.

Ongoing exhibit, "Selections from the Permanent Collection," provides a glimpse at various forms of cartoon and comic art. Open Tuesday - Friday 11:00 AM - 5:00 PM, Saturday 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM, Sunday 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM, closed major holidays.

International Children's Art Museum

San Francisco Maritime Museum

Ongoing "Sparks, Waves & Wizards: Communications at Sea." An exhibition that tracks the history of maritime communications, from semaphore to satellite. Hyde Street Pier One block north of Hyde Street cable car turnaround (Fisherman's Wharf) 556-3002.

Experience San Francisco's seafaring past aboard the ships that helped build The City: the recently restored 1886 square-rigger Balcutha, the 1895 lumber schooner C.A. Thayer, the 1891 scow schooner Alma, and the 1890 steam ferry Eureka. Daily 10:00 AM - 5:00 pm, until 6:00 pm during summer.
