RAILROAD WORKERS

Railroad work has always held a fascination for Americans and Canadians alike, partly because the railroad played such an important part in the building of North America.

Since the railroads very beginning, electricians have been a vital part of this industry.

"Black Shop" electricians maintain the numerous storage batteries used as power sources for the lighting and air conditioning of coaches. They also repair and maintain various pieces of intricate machinery and electrical equipment.

The construction and maintenance portions of the industry are the responsibility of Line and Inside electricians.

Roundhouse electricians repair and maintain automatic train controls, headlights and perform running repairs on diesel-electric locomotives, car lighting and air conditioning systems. Electricians, as their title suggests, maintain and install all such equipment.
